Being a PRO

I have been a teacher for over the last 20 years. many things have changed in that time period. Think about it Reagan was President when I started teaching. The economy was a mess. Oh I guess some things never change when the GOP is in charge. One thing that should never change is good taste and professionalism in dress. If you know your history in the 1968 Presidential election was the first time a lot of young people got involved in elections and the campaigning aspect of it. We are seeing that today. Just like the slogan "Get Clean For Gene" Which was in reference to young people cleaning up and getting haircuts, shaving, and dressing a professional, responsible matter. This was in support of their candidate Gene McCarthy who was running an underdog race for the Presidency. They wanted to make a good impression on the voters . Well that is still important today. I understand it is hot outside that , Americans are more lax on dress standards. That does not make it right. If you are working in a campaign, dress the professional part. No baggy pants. No mid driffs showing. No crack attacks. Nothing wrong with men wearing ties. Ladies looking respectful. Many of my students look god awful, to be honest with you. When I was coaching there was a dress code for MY athletes. They were representing the school and ME. So should all workers remember you are representing the candidate and all Democrats. That includes ME. Please think about it. It is important.

A great comment. I notice this all the time with candidate's representatives and also the representatives of the democratic party in Lincoln. Casual does not have to mean 'grungy'. Too often we are met by a young person from a campaign who is wearing too tight or too short clothes. I think it reflects negatively on the candidate because we expect there is a professional somewhere on staff to speak to these people. A good practice would be to tell them when hired that they are expected to have professional clothes. We have all had to purchase a wardrobe for a job in our lifetime and it is right that these kids get started now on theirs.
